Pat. 1885 .45 Cal. Cavalry Cartridge Belt 50 Loop Variation Price: 500
From my personal research collection, this belt is excellent and is the exact specimen shown on pg. 270 of AMERICAN MILITARY AND NAVAL BELTS 1812-1902. There were two lengths of this pattern cavalry belt and this is the longer of the two (the other being a 45 loop version). The 1885 Stuart-type Sabre hook on the sabre slipped through the box buckle held by the chape on the lower edge of the belt. The full-length tongue has considerable fine crazing but almost no flaking. The arsenal stamping on the tip of the tongue is faint and obscured by the fine crazing. The arsenal inspector's initials can no longer be seen. The tongue is, however, very live and solid.
A photo of the back of this belt is available on request if you do not have the reference work cited.
